PSP Launch Sell Out?

april 1, 2005

No, not really. Estimates are that about 500,000 of the million PSPs sold. Although, that is not a bad thing when you compare it with the DS launch. The DS was launched during the 2004 Christmas season and sold 500,000 units in a week. The PSP was launched during a quiet period for retail and still sold 500,000 units. The only thing bad about not selling out of the whole lot of the initial million is that Ebayers can't make a pretty buck reselling PSP units (damn!). Analysts are split over the first week of sales, but they are sure about the long-term sales of the PSP: "[T]the PSP will be the dominant handheld gaming device in two years."
